Rob Demovsky give us our gives us our 2012-2013 opponents in his notes today. GBPhoenix1 will be happy to see a full home slate of D1 teams. I think it was him that also hoped we'd get into a early season tourney again. This exempt tourney gives us an extra game on the schedule. Could help to get one more win to boost of tourament resume. Another monster opponent added in tourney host Nevada. They are presently 21-5 and in 1st place in the WAC. Home opponent South Dakota has a couple of Wisconsin kids on their roster, Steve Tecker and Nimrod Hilliard. Their also recruiting a number of in-state kids.

Are the games against Chicago St and South Dakota part of a home and home series, or did they buy a guarantee game with no return?
If those games are home and homes, we'd be committed to play at Marquette, Eastern Michigan, North Dakota St, South Dakota, and Chicago St in 2013-14. That wouldn't leave room for a tournament that year. Home games would be Wisconsin, Virginia, and a Bracketbuster, with 2 more home openings.

Isn't the home game against UW in 14-15?

Not accounting for the point that flying machine made, I am very happy with this schedule.
It has a mix of games against high majors. It has all d1 games on the schedule. It has an early season tournament against at least one quality opponent. Plus it is done in March so the staff can spend their time working on more important issues instead of scheduling.

The more I look at this schedule, the more I like it. It has bigtime opponents to battle test the team, including Marquette, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Nevada. It also has easy wins versus Chicago St, South Dakota, and Southern Illinois. Those wins won't help our RPI, but RPI doesn't matter anymore.

Rob Demovsky has tweeted that the Phoenix will play their exhibition game versus St. Norberts this year. I like it, that match-up always get some attention, and it's a chance to see Gary Grezk's team.

I really hope the Marquette / GB game at the Resch gets some statewide TV on either Time Warner Sports or Fox Sports Wisconsin. I remember when the Badgers came up here last time it wasnt available on TV across the state (can't remember if it was on locally), but was only available online with a crappy feed that cost like $5

Jimmy has a nice little rundown of Horizon League schools still looking to fill their schedules, including Green Bay trying to get another in-season home & home like we did a few years ago with Houston friggen Baptist

Our opponents have been set for some time. I just received my season ticket renewal package in the mail. They really went all out this year. It came in a folder containing a message from the coach, an opponent preview insert, and a very cool DVD. The folder was printed with various photos and facts, including the date of the 1st regular season game. It will be on Saturday (11/10) at The Resch Center 7:00 versus Chicago St. No other dates were available. I'm bigtime excited for the season.

Perhaps a well-placed call to Chrys Cornelius will tell you if it's a typo or the schedule isn't done. I'd be surprised if it were totally finished. Very few teams are done right now - GB would be the only team in the Horizon. Cornelius posted that on Tuesday. 2. That package for renewals sounds AWESOME! You should take pictures and post some of the material on here - that sounds like some pretty rad stuff.

Wardle said when releasing last years schedule that he wanted it done earlier this year. They released the opponents months ago and said they only need to settle on a few dates and sign a few of the contracts. Could a team have pulled out of a deal? Sure. But 2 teams? None of the road games are new series. Pulling out in the middle of a deal when they're hosting doesn't make sense. None of our opponets are looking for new games at Basketball Travellers. A same season home and home makes more sense next season, we they have the home games of the Virginia and Wisconsin deals come up in the same year. They might not want to start a home and home series with the road game pushed into the future when they have so many road openings next year. That package for renewals sounds AWESOME! You should take pictures and post some of the material on here - that sounds like some pretty rad stuff. Good idea, I should do that.

With Butler's announcement today, it makes sense why GB is now looking for 2 more non-conference games to fill out the remaining schedule

Green Bay's 3rd opponent in the Nevada Tournament will be Cal St. Fullerton. They finished tied for 2nd in the Big West Conference and went 21-10 overall, albeit against one of the nations weaker schedules. They were 135th in RPI, and lost to Loyola Marymount in the 1st round of the CIT.
They return their top 2 scorers from a high scoring, fast paced, under-sized team. They add a few JuCo's and transfers to next years team, as they do on a yearly basis.
Should be a highly competitive game. Wardle has certainly taken the schedule to a different level from the Kowalczyk era.
