It's a 3 A.M. start time for me in western Oregon. I think I'll DVR it ;-)

48-41 ETSU at half. Both teams are getting up and down the floor. GB jumped out to an early 15-4 lead with great transition offense and a pair of Love 3s. Then the Nix seemed to force shots more than playing fast and taking the open shot. I liked what i saw from Lowe in the first half but he was limited with two fouls. Fun group to watch but they need to be smarter with shot selection. ETSU had several run outs after long rebounds.

GB is allowing 50% shooting again. If they could force some misses they could get back in this. Great games from Love and Lowe so far.

It's fun watching Lowe destroy former Indiana Hoosier center Peter Jurkin. Jurkin is a 7 footer, but he doesn't have the agility to match Lowe's spin moves.

Tough to win when you give up 51% shooting. Frustrating thing is this roster was built to defend.
Break out game from Kenneth Lowe. We need more of that. He can be a dominant force because he's waay too quick for most big men.

Ouch. I though of the same thing J.....We should at least be competent on defense based on the roster BW left. But is it a function of Linc's up and down system. Can we play solid half-court defense if GB is now a run and gun team? I can't think of too many teams that ran up and down AND played good half-court D. Maybe the Jerry Tarkanian-led teams with UNLV???

Still not really sure as to why Botz is starting over Small, he doesn't seem to offer much in the way of defense like one would think he would. Don't jump the gun on Lowe either, still far too many mental errors and he's done nothing to make us think that he can suddenly become a great manuverer in the post. Looked like we gave up on defense like half of the time. We've gotta step this up, quit taking stupid shots and more solid defense. Not too happy I woke up at 5 for this

I haven't seen the game yet, but from a review of the box score it looks like this was a winnable game that was lost on shooting. From the comments above it sound like part of that was crappy half court defense. From the box score the other part was bad shooting by GB. 63% of 38 FT is going to lose games! Add to that other bad shooting. It does look like a lot of things went right as well.
FWIW FSC is having big half court defense problems as well. From what I've seen so far it's going to be a long, not fun season for the Moc's until they figure it out. The Moc's are shooting even WORSE than GB. Gotta get these teams straightened out!

I didn’t get to see or listen to the Stanford game so I didn’t offer any comments. Needless to say I was pumped to get up early and watch this game on tv. I feel really torn right now because I am sure Darner knows what he is doing and I am also not sure it is going to be working anytime soon. Now granted they just played a high major in Stanford and team full of high major transfers on the road so maybe they can wear out lesser talented teams.
I was most troubled by the terrible shooting from everywhere (even bunnies were a challenge) the number of run outs ETSU had from dumb GB mistakes and the half court defense. They didn’t stop anything in the half court all game. If Botz isn’t making shots his rebounding and defense are not good to keep starting if he has one or two more games like this.
For sure Fouse was an all-around stud. He really kept GB alive with his active hands and rebounding.
Lowe had a good game despite a few early dumb mistakes. He had a huge advantage dribbling and spinning in from the perimeter on slower big guys. He was active on the glass. I think he even made more jumpers in this game than the past two seasons combined. I assume Knight lol’d/cried when Brooke Weibrod was saying feed Lowe the ball more. One game does not a season make but that was about as good as it gets for Lowe.
Love made some plays to start but seemed to get bothered by ETSU’s defense and went cold. Still he was ready to go at an early tip time so I give him credit.
Cooper was not ready to go (a few early fumbles before catching his touchdown dunk) but as J mentioned in another thread he can bull his way to the basket all game and get hoops.
The rest of the guys were just there. It is hard to play 3 or 4 on 10.
A few other things to take note of. GB was not pressing much in the second half. I guess this was RP20. GB switched to a zone with Lowe out top and Fouse down low. That was hard for my eyes to adjust just knowing how good Fouse has been up top in the past and knowing that he is still going to rebound from anywhere on the court. In addition to Botz I was really disappointed with Hurdle. I know JUCO is a transition but he looked lost and in a game where his athletic ability should have been a factor he really didn’t make an impact.
I saw a picture on twitter that they were on private planes this morning heading to Atlanta so at least they should be able to rest up for Thursday. Georgia Tech just beat Tennessee last night at home so this won’t be easy. The last time GB played in Atlanta it was a drubbing by Georgia State, so hopefully it isn’t a repeat of that effort.

I assume Knight lol’d/cried when Brooke Weibrod was saying feed Lowe the ball more. One game does not a season make but that was about as good as it gets for Lowe. Indeed, flabbergasted in fact, this is absolutely not indicative of his play overall or his skill level. I was personally more concerned with his two fouls in the first 4 minutes of play.

Precisely why we need our quickest guys on the court, rather than putting our big guys out there
