Turning point recruit for Darner. Huge commitment! Terrific player who'll be part of Wisconsin's dominant HS team. Instant impact player.

This is fantastic news. Congrats to Trevor on committing and congrats to Darner and Company for making this happen. I like our two 2016 kids!

Great pick up for Linc and crew!!! I would like to see 3 guard sets with the Brown brothers and Anderson against smaller lineups.

Coach Darner and his staff know how to execute a full court press. Yesterday that paid off with the verbal commitment of Trevor Anderson. The Stevens Point playmaker is a blue collar athlete who promises to be a signature player for the new Nix regime. The immediate and intense attention Darner and staff focused on Anderson tipped the scales. Bo Ryan's mixed messages and other high majors wait and see attitude seemed to have a negative impact on a player who already has shown he is one of the top players in the state -- if not the top rising senior.
Anderson can become Darner's coach on the floor, a guy with a high basketball IQ and the prototype of a player who will become a coach when his playing days are over.
It's clear Darner likes to recruit players with point guard skills. GB fans may be seeing three and four guard sets at times. The Villanova approach. With a speeded up shot clock the effectiveness of this approach is going to increase.
In a little more than four months we have seen Darner and Company put an impressive foundation in place, with seven new players committed when you include those who are immediately eligible and the two 2016 verbal commitments. On paper all of them look like quality additions.
It's natural for a new coach to have a honeymoon period. Darner looks to have a longer honeymoon than other Nix coaches have had because he has displayed an ability to make the right moves in terms of putting an experienced staff together and hitting the recruiting trail effectively.

What does this mean for our 1-2 spots? I thought the Browns would've been more than sufficient.

GB will be an up tempo offensive game with a pressing defense. That will require depth. One of the drawbacks during the Kowalczyk Era was a failure to have enough true point guards. He kept recruiting two guards and trying to convert them. It hurt the offensive flow. With Darner's system the approach seems to be having multiple players with point guard skills on the court at the same time.
The rule change with a shorter shot clock is tailor made for having three and four players on the court at the same time who have playmaker skills.

It was painful in the TK Era when Ryan Evanachko (GB's start PG in the mid-TK Era) would play 38-39 minutes, defend the opponent's best perimeter player (or second best perimeter player if Terry Evans was not guarding him), be the scoring leader, AND run the offense without the luxury of a true, competent PG giving him meaningful breaks. TK misfired on a lot of PG prospects (whether it was a poor fit or academics) and as Tulsa said, tried to convert SG's to PG's. I remember at end of close games, a tired Evanachko would try to get a shot off while the defense triple teamed him, as the rest of the team stood around since all they could doo was shoot and not be able to move effectively without the ball or create their own shot....It got better when TK recruited guys like Rahmon Fletcher, Troy Cotton, and Bry Perine as they could at least handle the ball better.

Does that mean you envision him as purely a depth guy? That was my thinking but everyone seems so high on him. From the video I watched, he certainly didn't seem to impress more than the Browns...

I see Darner playing a lot of guards and good minutes for all of them. Like I said earlier -- Anderson looks to be a coach on the floor. Anderson and the Brown twins should be highly complimentary players and I think at times we'll see all of them on the court at the same time.

I think it's great that Linc was able to persuade this player to commit. I want to see UWGB get the most talented players possible from the state of WI. Some are going to go to high majors and there's not much to be done about that. That said, the way for Linc & Co. to build up the program fast is to retain as many as they can. Word will get around regarding the quality coaching and the FUN way UWGB plays the game. There's no doubt in my mind that WINNING GAMES will follow the recruiting and coaching, which will further fuel the fire. Good things are coming - and sooner rather than later.
Meanwhile...
Three guards a lot of the time. The pace of play will require quality sub's. Six quality guards is a nice target. PG skills are one thing. What these guards need is the ability to play tenacious defense, shoot everything: 3PT, 2PR, lay-ins, dunks, foul shots and pass the ball. Premium on athleticism and fitness. UWGB will be conditioned to play their game - will the opposition be up to defending against it?
I'm going to be very happy to see the season start, see some exciting play and get those W's get tallied.
Let's go 'Nix!

THIS is HUGE:
“I think I can bring leadership and just a mentality that we are not going to lose and we are not going to accept losing,” Anderson said. “As soon as I get on campus, I’m going to try to get everyone in the gym and just be a gym rat. Constantly in the gym working.”
This attitude took FSC to a national championship last year. Anderson has the goods as a player and a fantastic attitude. He's going to be a major contributor.
Some of y'all were worried about four-year talent. I hope you're starting to feel better about that.
