after loosing Keifer and Francis I was not expecting too much from our guards next year but that has now changed. The recruits Linc is bringing here in such a short period of time is incredible. Also, with his pipeline to Florida open i think we have a distinct advantage in recruiting.

FSCMoc can chime in on this, but I find it interesting that there is a lot of untapped mid-major D1 talent in FL. Is there any reason why this is? In college football, it is the exact opposite to where any schools in the Big Ten, MAC, or any other FBS school in the Upper Midwest MUST make inroads in FL to get the D1-caliber skill talent they need to fill out their rosters.
I know under TK, we had a scattered geographic approach to where he got talent from anywhere initially, then towards the end of his tenure, he was bringing in talent from TX, and from the Kansas City and St. Louis areas. BW contracted the territory to primarily WI, , northern IL & Chicago, the IA JC's, and IN.
Keeping the Chicago/IN pipeline under Linc is important, as well as keeping the in-state mid-major D1 talent, but if he can get kids from FL to come up to the climate of GB, more power to him.

if he can get kids from FL to come up to the climate of GB, more power to him. The only thing that concerns me about this is that the further away someone is from home, the higher the likelihood that they would transfer. Being away from home is difficult for any 18-22 year old, but add in the climate, and the craziness of being a D1 student-athlete and it takes a really special person to thrive in that environment. In contrast, the Chicago boys could go home for the weekend and were used to the weather.

Overall I am encourage by the quality of players that are coming in this late in the process. On the flip side, we will have some serious problems inside next year. We need both Lowe and Hendo to make big strides next year. I would be happy to see Hendo be capable of being a 8-9th man in a rotation instead of a major liability on the floor.

If you've lived in FL all your life Atlanta = winter and cold.
It takes a specialist to differentiate Atlanta winter from NYC winter from Syracuse winter from GB winter (the last two of which we all know are "special"). FL BB recruits don't know the difference like we do. It's ALL cold to them!
Something else to consider is darkness. There's way less light as far north as GB/Syracuse. That's something I appreciate living in FL and probably not considered by an 18 y.o. considering college.
Cold and dark will make you lonely. Lonely might make you miss home. That's where the distance comes in. Schooling closer to home could be good or bad. It would depend on which 'hood your from.
(That's not a cut at Chicago - there's lots of nasty 'hoods in FL, too. The rest of the US has nothing on Miami. I carry EVERYWHERE!)
Get a good enough program going and these things won't matter.
(You could be recruiting players to for a 2,500 student D2 school's program in Central Florida!)
I will have more to say on the FL BB recruiting situation shortly.

In contrast, the Chicago boys could go home for the weekend and were used to the weather. I remember TK bringing in a guard from Welasco, TX by the name Edgar Segura. Welasco is a stones throw from the Mexico border. He did not last long at GB......I'm all open for new recruiting pipelines, but the specter of homesickness looms large for a kid who is not from the Upper Midwest who goes to GB. Hopefully over time Linc will contract his recruiting base, but if he gets GB back into contention sooner rather than later, being a part of a consistent winning program can cure a little of the homesickness.

I predicted this but it didn't take a rocket scientist to see this coming. Verbal Commits @verbalcommits · "Former Kansas State G Tre Harris is transferring to SIUE." He will play for his uncle, former GB assistant coach Jon Harris.

Looks like knightlife will be becoming a Mississippi Valley State fan? I knew he would catch on somewhere. I think he will prove many wrong and eventually contribute at a high level. It sucks to see him sign elsewhere but some of our recent signings make me feel a little better about our situation.

I would say that playing at a Winona State or Parkside would be a better option that going to Itta Bena MS. One of the worst funded programs in the country. They played their home games at a local high school gym last year but now have a renovated facility. Too bad they will not play a D1 team there until mid January.

I'm glad he was able to catch on with a D1 team if that's what he wanted and I hope it works out.
On the other hand Parkside, Lewis, Drury, USI, etc. might have been better choices (if available).
MVS is not a good team (6 wins last year) in a not good conference (32 of 33 per BennettRank). Victim of Iowa State 83-33 last year - that had to be ugly.
I was disappointed for Laquincy Rideau of Blanche Ely H.S. (a real nice player) when he settled for Gardner-Webb to make it to D1. This is a considerably worse outcome.
Yet another POY sold way down market.
Sometimes D2 is the better path...

I've been on a camping trip for the past eight days and off the Internet. An impressive week for Darner and Company.
The new recruiting class so far has been better than I expected. I did anticipate a couple of JUCO signees -- but the quality of the recruits looks to be a notch above past years. Copper should compensate for the loss of Pittman and Francis. Because he is older, with more bulk -- coupled with athleticism -- he has the potential to surpass both of the departed. Replacing Sykes productivity has got to be achieved by committee.
Mays and McKinnie had their moments but consistency was a problem. Neither two seemed to step up in key games particularly, at the end of the year when Sykes had trouble carrying all the load. Jamar Hurdle restores some quickness to the front court that was lost with the end of eligibility for Mays and McKinnie. Hurdle has to be a key contributor in the rebounding area.
The Brown Twins presence means quickness, smarts and depth -- a key to play Darner's uptempo style.
It's clear Coach Darner wants a marksman type or versatile combo guard with the last scholarship opening. Matt Mooney could play any position in a three guard lineup. Bryson Scott would also do that without the outside firepower of Mooney. Judging from incomplete information my pick would be Jordan Poydras. I like his versatility and do not mind two year on scholarship for one year of eligibility. It buys the coaching staff time to establish recruiting relationships for the future.
The good news is that Nix have time now to fill the remaining scholarship. It also appears there will be no mroe additional defections, from the 2014-15 team.
