I wonder where Pittman goes and who is in his ear. Darner's system seems custom made for him.

I could see Linc bringing Florida Southern JC PG recruit Sheldon Zablotny-Crosby to GB. He averaged 20 PPG at Niagara County CC this year.
I could also see Linc recruit former Milwaukee Riverside F D'andre Downey. He had a big year at the juco level and fits Darner's defense perfectly. He has a bunch of mid-major offers.

Well -- all you can do is wish the departing players well and move forward. Francis and Pittman would have done well in Darner's system.
With change comes opportunity for the remaining players and for potential recruits looking at Green Bay.
If you just looked at the resumes of the final list of candidates without having their name attached most experts would have picked Darner's resume. We're about to find out if he can keep the remaining players and recruit to Green Bay. As a Nix fan I'm hopeful. The next week should produce a lot of news.

As of this minute the roster is: G: Love, Small, Findlay, maybe Okafor (??) F: Lowe, Fouse, Kanter, Botz C: Uwadiae Lets stop calling Botz a guard, shall we? He's a combo forward and with his shooting ability he can be a stretch-4 in some sets. But I do agree that Botz may have a second act regarding GB career. I can see Fouse playing more of the 4 spot as well. If Okafor comes to GB, I can see him, Love, and Small as a 3-guard lineup. We will be a bit short on the perimeter, but if this team will be pushing it up the floor, size is negated. I agree with CanOpenerMan that we should probably bank a scholarship if we can't find players that will fit in Darner's system. I can see getting a couple JC players for next season. Another guard and a wing forward. Darrell Riley is an intriguing prospect. I remember a short, 5'10" guard (Joran Aaron; Not from Milwaukee but playerd for UWM) that killed us at the Resch in 2013-14 and ruined our chance at the NCAA's. Is he being overlooked because of his size? Is he actually 5'7" (but listed as 5'9") which is giving pause to other D1 programs? Hope nobody else decides to leave......

I would be ecstatic to get Riley, he seems like he could be a real playmaker at this level, even though he has been overlooked presumably because of his size (sounds pleasantly familiar...). We need at least two more big bodies down low, hopefully we can land some guys quickly.

Regarding the turnover, I would much rather have guys who are more loyal to a university than a coach. I wish the guys that leave the program well, but it doesn't say a whole lot about their character. After all, Green Bay gave them great opportunities for success and to leave just because there is a new coach just kind of seems selfish to me. By all means I am for guys looking out for their best interests but when you think about it, is leaving a university you've committed yourself to really going to benefit you that much in the long run. I would be entirely sympathetic if they did so for academic reasons or for more playing time, but to be a highly touted guy who is going to play or a guy who played considerable minutes and still transfer because of a new coach just seems a$$ backwards. The university > one coach.
I am super proud of those who stay and those who will commit, its great to have guys who want to be apart of something special here!

(Well I guess it's the program) He played the 4 all year. He's too small for the position, and a little slow for it too. His best role is zone buster. Yes, Darryl Riley is only 5'7". Fun player to watch though.

Getting one of the in state kids that are transfers would be nice. Showalter or Dievkoss. Both shooters

If GB ends up with Showalter that might actually be my breaking point as a fan. That guy isn't D1 material. He can hit a set shot and that is it. A guy like Botz has a ton more ability and is struggling to find his footing at this level. Diekvos looks more well rounded to me but could be Botz part 2.
Speaking of Botz I know the roster lists him as a guard and some talk about a stretch 4. I agree with J, he is neither of those. Too slow for one and too small for the other. Last year his role was zone buster who couldn't bust the zone. With offense being a bigger focus than half court defense going forward I would expect he will get some more clock. It remains to be seen what he can do with it.
Guys commit to coaches and that is just how its done. The kids that commit next are committing to Darner just as much as GB. The same thing happens at SNC, Cardinal Stritch, Stevens Point, Whitewater, Xavier or Michigan State. At the D1 level where kids have big hopes and dreams they tend to move around a lot to keep their pro career dreams on track. I know guys move at the lower level but I also think they are more likely to want to finish their degree and graduate as the pro chances are much lower.

The probability is that Darner has had two weeks to think about the recruiting issues and player retention concerns he would have if he was offered the Green Bay job. Coaches network. It's the life blood of recruiting and scouting. This past weekend a wise poster said; "what makes you think some future Nix assistant coach isn't out recruiting right now?" He most likely was right. What the results are we'll know in the next months. If this is it for player and recruit defections -- 2 or 3 jucos, late bloomers or immediately eligible transfers could ease the transition.
This isn't the first time the new coach has been to a dance. Darner is an Indiana native. He was a pretty high profile player at Purdue as the team captain (junior, senior years) and Gene Keady protege. His resume also includes being the head coach at a D2 school in nortwest Indiana (suburban Chicago) before heading to Florida Southern. Those are impressive chops.
There has been concern about player loyalty. The reality is 99 percent go to a school because of the coach. This aspect of coaching is salesmanship. Your customer is a young man who has a lot of voices in his ear and a world to figure out. It's not easy on either side of the equation.
Changing the subject -- I can't say it enough. Gary Grzesk and Brian Barone deserve a special thanks for their past service to UWGB and the community.

No word from Okafor yet. One thing to take note of, I watched several interviews and his high school coach was wearing Purdue shirts in several. Perhaps he can help Okafor at least explore staying with Darner version of GB.
If they keep Okafor there is no need for Riley imo.
