GB still has a shot at the HL title....win out, and hope we get some help from CSU when they host Valpo in a week or so.
The effort at the end was promising despite having players foul out and Sykes not in the game. However you won't beat Valpo if you go through a 6-7 minute stretch without scoring. Having a lack of another experienced scoring guard and bad outside shooting overall hampers this team. Francis had some good minutes off the bench.
Kinda makes me think if GB could have landed Milton Doyle (since he's also a Chicago Marshall product like Keif and Al), he would be a solid presence at the 2-guard and be the 3-pt threat GB sorely needs.....Instead, he's the best player on a mediocre Loyola team that is getting worse by the week. I know he's struggled with a shoulder injury this season.

This loss hurts but it certainly doesn't end the season and nothing in this game says the players don't want to play anymore. Sure Sykes pretty much sucked on offense. They were flooding him with multiple defenders and he was either unable or unwilling to find the open guy. A few other guys did settle for jumpers that should not have. However, the defensive effort was there. GB blocked 11 shots and forced 18 turnovers. They had their hands on a bunch of other balls a few of which trickled into Valpo's hands for easy scores. They needed to rebound and run into their offense more but just straight defensive effort was there. They allowed a very good offensive team to shoot 37% at home and forced them into 18 turnover at home. This loss was more about offensive execution in my opinion. Too many early jumpers, too many missed free throws, not running as much they could have and being negative 5 in the offensive rebounding stat.
Yet for all of that the season is not lost. For sure GB has the inside line on second place. Win out and it is a double bye, avoid Valpo until the finals and with help host the championship. If GB wins out and gets the right help they still win the regular season and host. So anyone looking to next season is blind. This season is not done, not at all done. I don't see the players quitting and I surely wouldn't expect any real fans to quit either.
A few other takes from the game. The almighty and great Bryce Drew, the master of all x's and o's, the automatic HL coach of the year every year seemed to be asleep with one simple coaching point. Only #23 used a pump fake against GB. How many more shots did they need to get blocked before he would have other guys doing the same? GB was totally selling out to block every shot.
I think GB can stop using Turner Botz for now. He has no confidence in his shot. Even that last one which really didn't matter in the scheme of things was a sorry effort. Instead of rising up and shooting he half chucked it half hoped he would get fouled which is different than drawing a foul. He is 7-27 from deep on the year and 2-7 in league play. I want all of the guys to be good players and do well but it is time to play someone else for now.
Daeshon made a few big free throws and his first career 3 pointer. This was a good stage for him to get some big game experience. I don't think the lights were too bright, he is going to be a good player for GB.
Finally ESPN2 should be embarrassed by the color commentary effort of Sean Harrington. He pretty much called his college teammate and current Valpo assistant to get this pregame ready. He was kind of slanted toward Valpo because that is all he knew besides Sykes. For the record I would also take Marquette's coaching staff in a 3 on 3 tournament over Valpo's staff.

Hope he's ready soon, I don't want to see a repeat of last year when injuries killed us. Unlike somebody on the board I still want the Phoenix to win out and go to a tournament. Learn to read what I say before making such remarks. It's just embarrassing to yourself to misquote people. What I said was I'd rather not see them go to the NIT again because let's be honest, did you have any fun watching the guys mope around and get destroyed by Belmont last year? I sure didn't, no REAL FAN would. That's simply no way to close out a season like that which had so much hype and potential.

^ no guilt here but calling your self a "true fan" is something only an a$$hole would say. That guy also never said anything about he himself wanting the season to end either, he said he believed the players had no intensity remaining. Learn to read. You're just making a fool out of yourself once again. And if you were actually calling him out then actually say his name or my name or whomever instead of the "somebody on this board..." bull$hit

The intensity was tremendous in the 2nd half. Too bad Keifer was unwilling to just let his teammates win it. The gameplan was there, the talent was there, but one injured player was unwilling to defer to his teammates. Sykes has become increasingly selfish as the season has progressed, and it's really starting to hurt the team, along with his NBA chances.

You took my post along with another incorrectly about Lowe and we did not call you an Ahole. This is a board to voice your opinion and no need to blow someone up like that. Based on some of the things you have written i could have blown you up, but instead chose to respect what you have to write. So please calm down, continue to post your opinion along with the banter without calling someone an Ahole. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and i have liked some of your posts as it brings a different perspective. The name calling should be left for who we truly despise, which of course is Milwaukee... Lastly i really like this board and look forward to what people have to write.

Didn't get to see the entire game but being able to host the conference tourney or not isn't a huge deal IMO. Sure it's fun for us as fans to get to take in the games live, but we were just as close to the Big Dance when Valpo was hosting two years ago as we were last year when we were the high seed. How about we let this season ride out and see what happens, rather than call this season over, like specific individuals are beginning to do. All you can hope is that everyone is healthy and feeling fresh. I believe if our guys are healthy, they're the best team in the Horizon at home or on the road.

Agreed, if Green Bay wins out they have an excellent chance of hosting. Valpo still has to go on the road to face Cleveland State. Even if things don't work out for Green Bay hosting the tournament, they are still amongst the best teams in the conference. Once the tournament starts anything can happen regardless of where it is held. One only has to look to last year for an example of the improbable.

Try not to jump down each others' throats or you'll end up like our board, which is a never-ending cycle of negativity.
