Back into the frying pan for the Nix tonight @ Valpo. Odd start time of 4:00. No TV, if I'm available I'll take the game in on streaming. RPI forecast has GB the underdog by 3.4, it had us as a 4.3 underdog to Butler, and has been extremely accurate all year. GB has won 3 straight at Valpo, and Valpo has really lost momentum after playing well early in the season. Here's previews by Andrew Gavin and Rob Demovsky.

Nix started ok, then Wardle went braindead and forgot we're a really strong man defensive team. Nix went zone and got shredded. They played man the last 3 turns of the half and got 3 stops. Finished on a 4-0 run just to pull within 13.

Nix playing man now and have chipped the deficit to 7 with over 5 to play.

Our friend uwgbphoenixphan said he hates moral victories, so he's gonna hate this one. Nix play man defense exclusively in the 2nd half and claw within 3 with a minute to play. On Valpo next turn, the short clock runs down and Valpo has nothing. Jay Harris launches a deep 3 over Brown and hits. Aaron Armstead hit his 5th 3 in the final minute as the Nix continue to fight, but fall 90-87.
Great shooting from both teams. Nix struggled to defend Valpo's small lineup until Cougill left with his 4th foul. Turner also was out with a knee injury that might be serious. The small lineup was able to overmatch Valo's quickness, but the deficet was just too large. Jarvis Williams was really missed in this game, he's a perfect match-up against Broekoff.
Aaron Armstead finally gets his breakout performance, knocking down 5 of 6 3s, along with 3 big steals. Sykes and Brown also played extremely well. Sykes continue to learn how to use his awesome explosiveness. Cerroni converted a 4 point play to keep the Nix afloat before the D starting getting stops.
Hopefully Wardle trashes that pathetic zone, and shows the confidence in Armstead needed when the team is forced to play small defensively.

Frustrating to lose a game because the defense doesn't show up. It was exciting to see a breakout offensive game for Sykes and Armstead. It was good to Alec scoring in a variety of ways. It was even good to see them fight back from a big hole to make a game of it on the road.
