Tough one for the Phoenix tonight. Wisconsin can really, really shoot it. They spread the floor well and are extremely patient offensively. Hopefully the Phoenix can exploit their few weaknesses to keep it competitive. The Badgers are slow, they can't stop penetration. They then are forced to help defensively, and that has left them out of position to rebound. The Badgers don't like to use their bench, so hopefully the Nix can dictate tempo, and make the Badgers run. The hard part will be making the Badgers miss. The game will be on ESPN3. For me, that means I'll plug my laptop into the TV with a HDMI cable. Other tech savy indivuals might have a less rudimentary methods to watch a streamed game on the big screen TV they may want to share. It's lame this isn't on the BTN. Here's Rob Demovsky's story and preview.head Tough to hear about the Jarvis Williams injury. I didn't realize the ankle was bothering him that much of the season. Could he be a possible medical redshirt?

I have to admit, I'd be shocked if UWGB stays within 20 of the Badgers. I think the Badgers will take advantage of an inexperienced team and get tons of open shots against the Phoenix and light them up.
A loss under 10 to me would be sort of a moral victory. But deep down in my heart, I don't believe they make it that close. Maybe in the next couple years if this team learns to play tough defense and play together, they might be able to battle a team like the Badgers at the Kohl center. But I don't think they're at that level yet.

It is a last minute decision but I will be driving over to Madison for the game.
I am not expecting much. I think this GB team is too inexperienced to exploit any weaknesses that UW has. Marquette beat UW by speeding the game up and creating more possessions. GB has the athletic ability to try the same thing against UW but I doubt they have the experience to do it without a lot of mistakes against a very smart opponent.
In addition to the obvious of Brown and Cougill; Sykes and Johnson need to have a huge game attacking the rim and when appropriate finding Cerroni/Baker/Armstead on the perimiter to maybe keep GB close. With such a weak shooting GB team I am just not confident.
That sucks for Jarvis. I hope he comes back this year. This GB team needs experience and to be honest I would rather let the new guys develop in his minutes next year. I think the window for GB to make a run is maybe next year and certainly the year after. That means the young guys (Mays/Armstead/Fouse) need to be ready.

I'll predict that Kam Cerroni enjoys the Kohl centers soft rims tonight helps keep this game within a dozen.

Brust hits one at the buzzer to put the Badgers up 12 at the half. Nix doing some good things to keep it competitive. Brown and Cougill have controlled the interior.

Things got ugly in the 2nd half. The Nix outrebounded Wisconsin, and that could have been a bigger factor if GB got more shots up. Instead they turned the ball over constantly. Fouled too much on defense. They weren't aggressive on either end, they let UW dictate tempo. The defense was decent, but the offense was awful. Lots of work to do there. UW doubled Brown constantly, and the Phoenix had no one else hitting shots. Brown also continued his recent trend of missing open mid-range jumpers. Foul trouble by Sykes hurt too. box scoreRob Demovsky's game story

A very hard game to be a Phoenix fan. This team can't shoot and they spend so much effort trying to force the ball in to the post and constantly turn it over doing so.
Plus basic plays seem hard to execute. Turner had 2 or 3 offensive foul turnovers just setting a on ball screen. That's not all his fault as the guard needs to wait for him to get there but still that is a pretty basic play.
I know Sykes is the future at PG but he is way too inconsistent and most of the time it feels like the offense struggles with him in the game. I would love to see Wardle actually start his best lineup once.
I know it was just one game of garbage time minutes but Josh Humphrey has a long way to go before he is ready to contribute. His shot is totally busted and other than hustle I didn't see him doing a whole lot out there.
With the last scholarship I am hopeful that GB finds a legit perimeter shooter that is athletic enough to get a shot off.

The thing that really sticks out from this game is the experience level difference between the programs. GB has no players in their 4th year in the program. Wisconsin has 4 (2 seniors, 2 redshirt jrs). Those players (Taylor, Wilson, Bergren, Evans) played 99 minutes and went 18 for 33 (55%) from the floor, scoring 42 points. They had 12 assists to just 3 turnovers, and logged 5 blocks and 5 steals.
The rest of the Badgers went just 9-26 (35%) from the floor, with just 4 assists in 101 minutes. The freshman and sophomores classes at these 2 schools are fairly comparable, but there is no substitute for experience. GB will be loaded with experience when Wisconsin visits in 2013.

I would love to see Wardle actually start his best lineup once. Johnson did start last night. Also, shouldn't defense be a factor in choosing the starting lineup? If Johnson wants to play more, he should get down in a defensive stance and stop someone.

Sykes should guard someone without picking up two quick fouls. That guy is always in foul trouble. On offense Sykes just moves the ball around the perimeter but has trouble entering the ball to the post and doesn't always aggressively drive to the hoop despite being able to on many occassions this year.
Right now I personally think the best lineup is: Johnson Baker Armstead Cougill Brown
turner over armstead would work in most cases as well.

I'm sure people didn't think GB would hang with UW in 2009 either. Home court in these match-ups cannot be overlooked. Having an officiating crew from the Horizon League rather than from the Big Ten doesn't hurt either. They shouldn't have any problem hanging with good teams in 2013. They definitely have some talent in the Frosh and Soph classes. It's just a matter of those guys getting stronger, smarter, and more experienced.

If you think this team will compete your dead wrong. Wardles arrogance will get this team anywhere. People on here have been saying that Cerroni is going to produce and there has been no production at all if anything hurts the team when he is playing. UWM has a brighter future. Also on the grammar situation it's a place to talk basketball not grammer. We know you didn't go to UW Madison because you would be cheering for a winning program.

When you speak with such bad grammar, we don't really understand what you are trying to say.
Also there is a need to be patient with a Phoenix team who has no one in their third year playing with the team.
What can everyone expect when a coach leaves, takes players and recruits with him. When Wardel came in we basically had to start over.

To the guest that is posting, you are correct that this is a basketball posting board and not grammar class because I to would fail it this was a class. However you are afraid to use a real name and hide behind the guest like a little scared girl. If you think UWM which likes to be called Milwaukee has a brighter future, then post your garbage on their board. Not to overstate the obvious but I am questioning if you even graduated from high school as your posts are barely understandable.
As for Green Bay they are a young team and are entitled to some growing pains which in 2 to 3 years will not be accepted. However, in the interim we will continue to support our team and you can do whatever it is you do.
Also let me know a good coach that does not display a sense of arrogance. If you do I will show you a coach that did not make it.
One last item. You really need to read what you write prior to hitting the post reply button.
