The season is finally here! Exhibition versus St. Norbert Wednesday night at the Kress Center. Here's Andrew Gavin's game preview. Am I right in thinking St. Norbert is everyones favorite team to play in exhibitions? Gary should have a very solid team this year.

I like the local nature of the St. Norbert match up and the GB connection, but I would enjoy a match up with Stevens Point or Whitewater just as much. I am looking forward to the season and am cautiously optimistic.

No pun intended

Well it was a solid start to the season for Green Bay tonight. First half was a struggle on D as St Norbert was hitting all their shots. They were wide open on a lot of those so GB will have to fix that, and they did a lot better job in the 2nd half with that. 2nd half was a strong all around effort by everyone and it showed on the scoreboard.
Alec Brown just dominated, as he should against a D3 team. It was really nice to see him demand the ball and be more aggressive when he got it. He wasn't hesitant to shoot anywhere on the floor and he had his 2 most powerful dunks as a Phoenix tonight. He is alot stronger this year and it shows with his aggressive play. Look out Horizon!
Keifer Sykes was in control all night and didnt try to do too much. Took over in the 1st half when we needed some buckets and just played solid all game. His outside shot looked great tonight as well.
Cooogs played great as well and him and Brown are going to be quite a handful for teams with their inside out game. He knocked down his shots and looks like he's in alot better shape this year. Could see him averaging around 11-12/7-8/3 this year which is pretty good for your teams 3rd option.
Jordan Fouse might be exactly what this team needs to make the leap to the tourney. His all around game is perfect for the surrounding players and if he can stay somewhat consistant this year I expect good things. He can score, rebound, pass and play great D. The thing I like most is that when he drives to the bucket he's always looking for the open guy and getting people open shots. AB will get alot of dunks this year because of that.
Hopefully we can keep this level of play going all season and make some noise!
Also it was pretty classy to see the team rush into the stands to help the injured fan. Shows the types of kids that Wardle gets to represent Green Bay. Hope the gentleman is ok.

I agree with everything GBNix11 said, and everything in Rob Demovsky's game recap: Green Bay Fouse has impressive debutFouse was awesome, and he gives this team NBA size on its starting frontcourt. The reason I've predicted this team will finish better than statistical predictors project is because Fouse is not a typical freshman. Also great to see Daniel Turner back. I've under-estimated his ability to come back from injury quickly and the impact he'll have on the floor this year. I shouldn't under-estimate DT.

It was also fun watching the now more explosive Brown. Watching him get stronger without losing his shooting touch while also increasing his explosiveness is a real testimate to what can be done when one works out the right way. Brown's physical development is the exact opposite of former Badger Brian Butch. Butch was the more herald player in HS, but only packed on bad weight at Wisconsin. Playing with back fat limited his foot speed and agility. Brown has been willing to do the weight room work that Butch wouldn't do, and will have the NBA career Butch never had because of it.

While it was closer than needed in the first half and GB had several defensive breakdowns, I felt like that was improved for the first 15 minutes of the second half. They have enough athletes that they can get out on the screens and still get back to their man when they don't switch. When they did switch I felt like Fouse or others where over matched going against guards.
AB did exactly what he should do in a game like this. He scored easily and in a variety of ways. He looked very confident in his mid range jumper. He held the ball up high in the post and he finished. He aggressively went to dunk everytime. Offensively he was ready to go. I did feel like he missed a few close outs and gave up rebounds he shouldn't, I hope that intensity picks up and matches what he did on offense.
BC was just solid all around. I am expecting a huge break out year for him. He is a tough match up since he isn't a complete turtle. Strong inside and nice touch outside. Plus he and AB still work that nice high low game.
I thought Sykes showed an improved offensive game. His jumper looked better or least more confident. His driving was just like he left off. He took over when needed and played a team game when not. I thought he could have just gone to the hoop a lot more and scored a ton of points if he wanted to. Better to save that for when other guys aren't clicking.
Fouse is a very nice player. I don't know if he will put up enough offensive numbers to get the leagues attention but he is just a great all around player as a freshman. He is perfect for this starting 5 and a guy I can easily see growing in to a bigger role during his career. Very excited about him.
Love had a few moments but most important he looks like Sykes. It is hard to tell them apart when just glancing at the computer screen. That is a good thing. He just needs more development.
Mays and Turner each made some plays. Both guys are nice reserves to have and yet each still has some improving to do. That said I don't cringe seeing them come off the bench to get some run. I like the depth they add.
I don't see Arenz playing much this year. I could see Sultan being a Steve Baker type but who knows what kind of time he will get when Cole is available. I can't see both playing.
A good start, plenty to improve but I didn't see anything that diminishes my hopes.
