Much worse than I had expected, but I certainly understand the growing process. With ISU shooting over 60%, it makes it even more difficult to compete. Too many turnovers.

If they couldn’t beat the 1-3-1 against SNC, they sure as hell weren’t going to score with Iowa State’s pressure……just…..yikes.

Obviously the offense has been dreadful. 11 turnovers in 20 minutes… wow. It appears to me that the talent differential is huge, in addition, the physical differences are huge. Bigger stronger peeps are totally trashing the nix. Coupled with better basketball skills, well this is how one loses by 40 points. Early in the season is the time to beat a team in the power conferences. New Nix team with new coaches and players well only have upwards to go.

Anyone know why Clarence Cummings is suspended for a month?

Woof, that was brutal. Iowa St was able to impose their will on this game in pretty much every phase. Even on broken plays and loose balls they were able to turn lemons into lemonade. Milan banking in a 3 at the half time buzzer is a good example of that.
I wasn't expecting the team to win and I don't think this result was from a lack of effort. Though that isn't too comforting after having a chance to sleep this one off.
This will be a great test for the guys though to see if they can bounce back and keep their juice as they build up through the season. This is the area where I have my highest conviction for Coach Wicks. The team may fall flat at times but he doesn't seem like the kind of guy that is going to let them stay there for long.

Last night was not pretty by any stretch of the imagination. I don’t want to sound like the endlessly optimistic fan, but I am not worried yet. The size difference is always front and center against these power 5 schools. We haven’t had legit size since wardle let’s face the facts. Sometimes I would like to see the staff go after a tall center who will obviously be less polished if he is going to attend a small mid major. Someone like Henry uwadiae but with more knowledge of the game than him. Someone who can halfway defend and rebound just to help with size. We also had two forwards out last night and we know we are thin to begin with at that position. I’m more curious to see how the team looks against a valpo program next week who has been down the past few years compared to their standard. Games against power 5 opponents only tell so much, especially in the first game of a new regime.

I’m more curious to see how the team looks against a valpo program next week who has been down the past few years compared to their standard. Games against power 5 opponents only tell so much, especially in the first game of a new regime. The issue is that there was no coherent play on either side of the ball. You can get out-muscled and out-ran but you at least have to look like you’ve got a plan on both sides of the ball. There was none of that. The defense couldn’t get around basic screens at the top of the key and would just drop back into the lane every time, leaving their shooters wide open time and again. On offense, there were so so many poor looks because the guys mostly just stood around. Pass across the baseline and swing it around the arc was all the offense really was and it clearly wasn’t working. One thing that really concerned me was that at halftime, by my count, only THREE Phoenix players even attempted a shot. Is that just how it played out, or do certain guys not have a green light at all? Watching Noah and Rich shoot over and over and miss was painful. There’s no reason to think Thursday is a guaranteed win with what we’ve seen in two games, I don’t care if a few guys have been out, it looks like the worst of last season so far. I trust Sunny a little more than Will, so we will see if the tide turns eventually.

I know that I have not been as high on Sunny here as most of you, but this is exactly the type of game I was expecting. On the road against a power program with an experienced head coach versus a program coming off a historically bad season with a new coach and a bunch of new players. What did people think was going to happen?
The good news is that the schedule is going to be much more manageable moving forward. Not saying they will win a bunch of games, but there will be plenty of opportunities to grow and develop as a team. We don't have to play an opponent like that until Oklahoma over the holiday break.

It will be ugly at times, very ugly. Missing your projected starting point guard, Ruedinger doesn't help running an offense against a veteran high major program. Take away two of your most experienced players in Cummings and Eames and you have compounded the ability to mount any kind of offense or defense. I'm withholding any judgement on the new regime until the team is healthy and playing against mid-major competition.

I saw his stats his freshman year at valpo he led the country in assists. Reynolds the first fan I’m yelling listening on radio quit turning the ball over and watching on tv quit turning the ball over with Preston you wouldn’t have that.

Iowa State beat #2 Houston tonight. They are a very good team.
