The team returns home this weekend for the first time all year. Not sure what we will see from the team but at least we know the beer will be stocked at the Kress. Who is all making an appearance to watch the boys on Saturday night?

UIC is coming in with a 4-2 record. They lost to the two A10 teams they played and then beat an NAIA team as well as three teams that near the current GB level of success.
They seem to have good length and size at most positions. They also seem to make a lot of dumb mistakes and aren't the best shooting team, though they did shoot better in their last two games.
In the past UIC had a defense that allowed scores once a player beat his man. I would love to see some of the GB guards get near the lane, it could lead to a lot of buckets at the rim. This is a game that DZ and ZB could really have a field day in.
Until we see something more from this GB team it is hard to predict wins. I would say pesky defense for 40 minutes would probably cause UIC to make a lot of mistakes and give GB a chance to compete. I don't know what it will take for the team to keep their eyes up and weather some of the storms that happen in a game but this is a team that shouldn't beat GB by 20+. I am not saying they won't do that, just that they shouldn't. From what I can tell the sum of their parts doesn't make a great team for UIC.

253 at 357 (out of 363) in the KenPom. We'll see what happens.

Six more spots to go and then everyone on the board can share my optimism that there is no where to go but up. Ha!

I am home for the Holiday so yes I will be attending the game tonight at the Kress. I am surprised that we are ONLY a 5 point underdog as it sits right now. I'll take that as encouraging!
A couple other positives to grasp on to - Wisconsin has played well since the game against GB - so maybe our non-embarrassing showing against them was not all UW's poor performance, but also maybe we can take some credit there? Also - last game Clarence Cummings had a good stat line, that was good to see.
Obviously we possess some ugly numbers stat-wise, but right now we are dead last in the nation in rebounds per game at 26.4, next worst is 29.2. Of course when your opponents shoot nearly 50% against you, well you know.
I hope the guys can play with some fire - they should be fed up with this nonsense and move one in the win column. Home court should be a positive in helping them be loose, not something that causes them to play with more tightness and trepidation. It's Chicago, an always-never-better-than-mediocre team that felt they were too good for the Horizon league.

They haven’t exactly beaten great teams to have that record but GB hasn’t even shown enough to compete with anyone. Can’t make it tonight but looking forward to being in the Resch on Thursday for UWM.

First time I have seen them play on tv, too many forced 3 pointers that were not even close. The shots were open but just a bit outside.

You can't help but shake your head watching our guys shoot open shots that are air balls or ugly bricks. Garren Davis, who was dunking in warmups, gets an open breakaway layup and decides to lay it in and doesn't get it over the front of the rim. We still spend a lot of time playing with 4 guards. When we try to feed it inside, the defense collapses around us and pokes the ball away. We may run a offensive system that is successful elsewhere and popular in basketball circles, but we really do look absolutely lost sometimes.
During one of the first-half timeouts, they had some little kid come out and he had to make a series of shots in 30 seconds - he made 1 of 2 attempts from beyond the arc just as his time expired. He won like a pizza or something, but he probably should have been given a scholarship.
Donovan Short got in the game very early and I thought, hey finally Will Ryan is reading the message board advice here!! But alas, I think Donovan was only inserted for Cade so that Will could chew Cade out for a bit, as Donovan did not see any other PT the rest of the game. I don't know what the hell we are saving him for - we are losing games by large margins, what do we have to lose? I mean can you imagine that some teams actually play 3 big men at the same time?? And go ahead and have Braydon Dailey and Zane Short remove their warmups and put them in as well. What else is there to do here?

They didn't play any team defense, UIC was a hacking mess and GB couldn't punish them for that due to a lack of team defense.
It wasn't really the same as the other games. Yeah they fell behind in the second half but in this game they cut the lead from 17 to 9. Several times they had the ball and the tens of assembled people cheering them on but couldn't get over the hump due to defensive breakdowns. They didn't quit like we've seen a few times.
Nate, DZ and Garren all made choices in the second half in transition that don't look good right now. That is 3 empty possessions and a team that can't score can't have that.
In this game Brock was having success inside, it's hard for me to say play Short more when Brock was doing well.
In general I'd say give me more of the young guys but I can also see why in this game that didn't happen.
They have 3 of the next 4 at home. They then play 7 in a row on the road. They need to taste victory ASAP with the schedule like it is.
