Just thinking out loud here. Would it have made more sense to stick with Linc another year knowing there was a pandemic? Did GB really think they’d lose out on Will Ryan by waiting another year? It brings me back to agreeing with the firing but not the timing. I don’t see Linc doing much better this year than what Ryan is. Maybe another win or two so far. My concern is the excitement over hiring Ryan will be all but gone come next year after people see the final win loss record. I know at the time of the firing we thought there might be some fans this year but the administration was foolish to not consider the possibility there wouldn’t be. I’m excited to see the talent Ryan is bringing in next year, but will it be enough to put butts in the seats? This program is in a sad state right now. It has been for awhile. Somehow the message board activity on here is worse during a pandemic when people have nothing to do and nowhere to go than last year. The media coverage the team got during Ryan’s hiring is just about gone now locally. I just don’t like where this is going... I think you bring up a lot of valid concerns. Yes the timing of the decision to fire Linc was bizarre but like was mentioned before, if they knew that's what they were going to do there was no reason to wait another year. I doubt they had this in mind when making the change but with this season basically turning into a "free" year - a jacked up schedule, no fans allowed, players getting another season of eligibility, games getting cancelled, ect - it actually turned out to be the perfect time to start a rebuild of the program. The coaching staff gets to evaluate what they've got currently and what they need going forward, they are off to a fantastic start on the recruiting trail (on paper anyway), and they will have a full offseason program to keep working with the guys who will be coming back and getting new players up to speed on the system. They are using this "free" year to rebuild the foundation of the program and my expectation is that the difference from the start of this season to the start of next season - when things are back to normal hopefully - will be much better. Of course a lot of that depends on which players come back and what kind of caliber player is brought in as potential replacements too so it's not quite as simple as having the new system fully installed and expecting it to translate to wins. As far the buzz and lack of media attention, even in GB's best seasons they'd still be overshadowed by a deep Packers playoff run. The local media is understandably going to be all Packers all the time until their season is over. With that said I've still heard more local media outlets involved in the postgame press conferences than I can remember at least since 2015. I'd expect once football season is done there will be even more focus on the Phoenix, especially if they can get closer to .500 with March around the corner. I'd also note that for whatever reason sports consumption in general has been way down over the past year. Maybe it's the pandemic plus everything going on in the world but even the TV ratings for the NFL playoffs are down. That's a lot of excuses without mentioning the fact that the team's record isn't very good, which obviously doesn't help either. We've seen in the past few years GB start slow out of the gates and have a bit of a February surge so maybe that is in the cards again this season. Winning games would definitely help bring some of that buzz back but foundationally I like the way the program is heading even if the win/loss record during a pandemic season isn't great. In all this talk of building a better foundation and liking the way the future of this team is looking I am curious as to how the athletes feel. I wonder if PJ and Amari envisioned being 3-11. I wonder if several of the players who are now barely seeing any playing time envisioned this type of season. How much do we really care about the athletes? And yes I realize they get another year but with the number of new recruits coming in several players are going to lose their scholarships.

From what I was told, the University was very concerned for the student athletes, and that's what lead to the coaching change. I was told it had little to do with the attendance, contrary to popular belief.

Pretty low is using 2 usernames to try to influence the board. Did you think Haveadrinkonme was clever?

The same University that kept Wardle after it was revealed he verbally abused athletes, thought Darner was cause for concern? It’s fine if you don’t like him, but spreading lies about him is a pretty shitty thing to do.

Also, look at his record for players and their GPA. Don't believe everything you hear. Also, Tank and Manny left mainly because Link was fired. Stop it... If you ask me, he was fired because of two Alpha dogs not getting alone and his contract was way in his favor, bonus after bonus and extra years on top of it... Link Agent should get an Academy Award, PERIOD !!!

I heard what I heard. Don't kill the messenger. This is the exact reason I recused myself from the board during that era, there was a lot going on behind the scenes. The student athletes remain their number 1 priority.
