Early start for those of us in the central time zone. With a 6pm tip time it might be tough to get home, change into GB gear and make a drink in time for the start. Fortunately this game, the "preview of Amari Davis's future home", will be on National TV (FS2) so you can record it and watch at your leisure.
From an opportunity standpoint Xavier has beat 3 mid majors at home pretty easily. They did struggle against Missouri State and Missouri for that matter in lower scoring games. Since GB isn't likely to play slow that might not be helpful in predicting GB's fate.
Xavier is bigger than GB up front but not a lot like Purdue was. On the guard side they are thicker than GB but not a lot taller. Hopefully GB is quicker at some spots and get shots off.
Xavier doesn't give up a ton of points, only 61.4 per game. They track closeouts with the fans. A closeout is 3 straight stops and the fans get into after the second stop. That is kind of cool. If only GB fans would make some noise or stand up or generally be alive!
Luckily Xavier's next game is the cross town rivalry with Cincinnati so perhaps GB can catch them in a trap game moment.
Two stats that stand out for an opportunity to win are 3 point FG% and assist to turnover ratio. Xavier is shooting 28.5% from deep and has an assist to turnover ratio of .90. If GB can get these guys sped up and playing at GB's pace it doesn't look like Xavier can win a shootout or make enough good choices with the ball.
It is a big game atmosphere and I would love to see GB back up the road W on Saturday with a strong game on Wednesday.

Nice preview, but we gotta stop with this future home of blah blah blah. Not worried about it one bit.

Nice preview, but we gotta stop with this future home of blah blah blah. Not worried about it one bit. I was just kidding. Whether it's a legit concern I don't know and don't care. Being posted when it was and by who it was posted by it was an obvious attempt to piss in the GB camp fire. As such it warrants future sarcasm from me.

You can mock me all you want and I’m gonna enjoy him while it lasts too but if he keeps this up you’re delusional to think he will stay here. It’s the new college basketball. After what happened with Trevor Anderson you’d think you’d learn. It might not be after this year but I could see him leaving as a grad transfer when he’s at his best. This program can’t seem to have nice things under Darner. I know you don’t want to obess over the future or something we can’t control but it’s depressing that this program probably won’t keep a Keifer Skyes or even Alec Brown type player ever again for all four years with the new transfer rules.

Damn it! I thought we all decided not to speak Trevor Anderson’s name anymore! . But seriously though I bet he is excited to go back to Ohio to play some ball. I want nothing more than a competitive game from the guys and keep our momentum trending upward.

Not everyone qualifies as a grad transfer and many would not want to sit out a year like Anderson and end up with less playing time. Many who transfer are not getting the playing time they think they deserve or get caught up in a coaching change.

It’s fine to critique the team, there is plenty to critique, but there is also a lot to appreciate. Try focusing on the good things for a change.

Speaking of transfers, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Kerem Kanter given that our next opponent is Xavier.
I'm curious how GB fans remember him. As far as I know he didn't burn any UWGB flags on his way out like Anderson did, but he did still bail on the program. Darner's system isn't really all that favorable for big guys like him so I guess it's understandable, but I think Kanter could've been an All-Horizon player had he stayed for his senior season.
It seems like he had a successful season at Xavier and is off playing pro ball in Spain now. Good for him. I did always chuckle though that this was the final shot of his college basketball career:

I did always chuckle though that this was the final shot of his college basketball career: Who? I don't remember this guy in GB...just kidding Kanter was a very nice offensive player at the end of his time in GB, though he didn't play very much defense. Kind of like Big Dog from the Bucks back in the day. What he gave you he gave most of it back on the other end. Regardless, good for him to play his way up to the Big East. I think coming from the bloodlines he did it was no surprise that he wanted to prove he could ball on a higher level. I thought he had some fun moments for Xavier and the fans liked him. On social media he kind of acts like Xavier was the only place he played and that GB never happened. Watch his Twitter tomorrow, I would be surprised if he has anything good to say about GB.

On the Xavier website there is a pregame press conference with Coach Steele and they will also have a post game press conference linked for those who are interested.

Don’t forget tonight’s game is on FS2 with Thom Brennaman and former Nebraska coach Tim Miles on the call.
The line is Xavier by 17. Hopefully we can keep the good shooting from Saturday night going.

Well it was there for the taking. Was just fully dominated on the glass.
Overall though it wasn’t a bad performance against a very good team. Take the paycheck and now go get a W at Eastern Illinois.
Refs were crappy

GB never really let Xavier get on a big run while also having a draught of their own. They more so just got worn down by the physicality of the game. They certainly didn't embarrass themselves on national TV. A similar effort against UCF might result in a W. Have to beat EIU, those are the games they absolutely can't lose if they want to send any message. Officiating was junk and lazy. It looks like things were getting chippy because of it.

The start was great but GB never had a big run to either extend their leads early or get back into the game late. Marshall was a big time player and a match-up nightmare. I have never seen so may delays due to blood on the floor. It was nice to see Bell play well, it hasnt been the start we all were hoping he would have. Time to beat Eastern Illinois and pull off an upset in Orlando.

As I said at the beginning and been saying, the Linc system gives guys so much freedom but if they had a filter, we would be really dangerous... I thought the idea of doubling the post and keeping the inside from beating us worked like a charm but when we had a chance to build on stuff, we took quick bad shots...
